About the Role

We’re seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who’s passionate about designing products that make a difference in people’s lives. This position is ideal for an engineer with a strong technical foundation and a desire to learn, grow, and contribute to meaningful projects.

You’ll work as part of our New Product Development (NPD) team, supporting the design and development of advanced medical equipment from concept to commercialization. Some projects will be your own, while others will support a larger project – all will be collaborative efforts with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.

At UMF Medical, we use the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to stay focused, aligned, and accountable—so great ideas don’t just stay ideas; they become products that matter.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop new medical products using SolidWorks guided by Design Thinking principles.
  • Collaborate across departments—Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain—to ensure each design is manufacturable, safe, cost-effective, and user-friendly.
  • Translate customer insights and clinical feedback into intuitive, high-performance product solutions.
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensure efficient, repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and execute test protocols for performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Lead design reviews, support prototype builds, and ensure smooth transitions into production.
  • Select materials and suppliers, evaluating tooling, cost, and manufacturability options.
  • Balance creativity and discipline, managing multiple design projects from concept through launch.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD software)
  • Understanding of sheet metal design and fabrication processes (preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of FEA, tolerance analysis, and material selection
  • Comfortable with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with medical device standards (IEC/UL 60601) or regulated industries (a plus)

Mindset & Soft Skills

  • Curious, hands-on learner with a team-first attitude
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills focused on User Experience
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with a passion for design excellence
  • Thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Committed to continuous improvement and learning from feedback

Education & Experience

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field (preferred)
  • 1–3 years of hands-on mechanical design or product development experience
  • Internship or co-op experience in manufacturing or medical devices a plus

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • You’ll see your designs come to life—impacting healthcare professionals and patients across the U.S.
  • You’ll grow alongside experienced engineers who mentor and support your development.
  • You’ll be part of a mission-driven company that’s growing fast and investing in innovation.
  • You’ll have opportunities to expand your skills, take ownership, and help shape the future of our products.

We offer competitive compensation, benefits, and a collaborative work environment where innovation thrives.
